This week’s Samoalive Personality of the Week is Philipose Jacob whose family has  played a an important role in the education system in Samoa in the last quarter century.. Mr Jacob  resides with his family at Vaivase-tai. Mr Jacob is presently a Physics lecturer at the National University of Samoa.

 History of your School Days:

“ After primary and secondary education in India I graduated from the University of Kerala, India and also underwent special training in teaching Nuffield Physics”.

 Main highlights of your career:

 ·       1962-1966: Quality Control Analyst- Steel Manufacturing

·       1966-1975(May): Physics and Mathematics teacher for Cambridge Overseas Examinations in Brunei, Darussalam

·       1975(June)-1997(July): Physics teacher at Samoa College

·       1980,1987,1989: Acting Principal of Samoa College

·       1997( July-to date): Physics lecturer, National University of Samoa

 Where to from here:

 “Stay in Samoa as long as the National University of Samoa needs my service; then retire to my home in India”. “ I always laugh when I meet my old students and they remind of the anecdotes I used to tell them when they were at school”. “ I am proud to say that I have taught a lot of the finest minds in Samoa and am happy to be contributing to the continual education in Samoa”.

“If I have inspired at least one person to achieve their goal in life through education then I consider myself to have succeeded as a teacher”.
