Effective from 15 November 2001, the
Electric Power Corporation (EPC) has changed the way it
charges its customers for electricity. An automatic review
of the price of electricity will be made very six months.
When the price of electricity will be adjusted up or down if
the price movements of fuel bought by EPC exceeds 3 percent.
To help the low income customers, a "Lifeline" price scheme
has been introduced for domestic customers which is as
follows
Charge of 50 sene per unit if consumes between 1 to 5 KWH
units
Charge of 60 sene per unit if consumes between 51 to 200KWH
units
Charge of 72 sene per unit if consume in excess of 201 KWH
units
The non-domestic consumers which include Industrial,
Commercial and Religious organisations,hotels,Schools and
Hospitals will be charged a price of 60 sene per KWH unit.
The minimum charge of $15 per customer has been
abolished and customers will be charged based on their
actual consumption.
The 10 percent discount will be phased out over two
stages.The first phase of reducing the discount to 5 percent
has started from 15 November 2001 and there will be discount
as from 15 November 2002.
