Year
you were crowned Miss Samoa:
1978
Where
was it held?
You
were sponsored by?
What
were some of the highlights of this evening as you saw it?
Did
you dedicate this win to someone? Who was it, and why?
What
were some of the highlights during your reign?
-
Represented
Western Samoa in the 1978 Miss World Beauty Pageant in London.
A life time experience that I will always treasure.
-
Attended
the June Daly Watkins Modeling School in Auckland, New Zealand
(part of the preparations for the Miss World Beauty Pageant).
-
Represented
Western Samoa in the 1979 Miss South Pacific Beauty Pageant in
Suva, Fiji.
-
Nominated
by the committee for Miss American Samoa to represent Samoa in
the 1980 Miss Universe Beauty Pageant in Seoul, Korea.
I did not participate because I had just started a new
career in Suva, Fiji.
-
Opportunities
overseas such as a scholarship to pursue a modeling career in
the United States. There
was employment offered by Ed Daly the owner of the World
Airways in Oakland, San Francisco.
Briefly
describe your career path after your reign as Miss Samoa.
1979(Nov)-1983
I was with the Air Pacific Co. Ltd.
November 1983 as a flight attendant, immigrated to the
United States and was employed by the first interstate Bank of
California. And then
in November 1989, I got married and my first child was born in
1991. This was also
the year I decided to leave work and my studies to become a full
time mom.
Briefly
tell us what you do at present? (Business, studying, working
etc..)
Have
you achieved what you set out to do in the beginning?
-
My
foremost interest was to travel and enjoy my single life to
the fullest. Yes,
I traveled a great deal and it really broadened my horizons,
personality, appearance development and a lot of exciting
challenges. As
for my single life I thoroughly enjoyed every minute.
What
do you hope to achieve in the next five years?
What
is your most valuable advice to young Samoan women in today’s
changing Samoan community?
-
Be
honest. Its about self integrity and self respect. To be
honest we must possess the courage to confront what we fear,
especially that of rejection, failure and humiliation. This is
important as we grow up to be mothers in our family and to
pass this on to our children
-
Be
yourself – if people don’t accept you – tough luck –
“I don’t believe in acting it will come tough sooner or
later.
-
Lastly
“remind your self that success is not measured by the
outward trappings but rather by the inward growth and
satisfaction you achieve”
And
finally who in society or in the community do you most admire and
why?
